Lord Murugan Statue is the tallest statue in Malaysia at 42.7 metres
(140 ft) and the tallest statue of a Hindu deity in Malaysia. It is the second tallest statue of a Hindu deity
in the world, (the Kailashnath Mahadev
Statue in Nepal is tallest). It is located at the Sri Murugan Perumal Kovil at
the foot of Batu Caves. ]It took 3 years to
build and surprisingly , well at least to me is modern being finished in 2006
and was unveiled in
January 2006 during the Thaipsum Festival.
the statue is another of those things where stats for those impressed by such things are availalbe , 250 tons of steel bars ,1550 cubic metres of concrete , 300 litres of gold paint .
The pity for me was the debris everywhere , this a national monument and a shrine was littered with plastic bottles , food wrappers and discarded flip flops. However and to be fair there were a lot of visitors and some of those don't care what they trash , and as fast as the Malays picked up the rubbish the monkeys scattered it again
An unnecessary sign I felt
It is steep and long and hot , some lunatics ran up it , but, in general take a moment pause , turn around and enjoy the view.
Not of my backside that was an inadvertent comment .
getting my breath back
it is huge inside , I took videos but blogspot doesnt seem to like videos and I cant download them , or upload them or whatever which is a shame becuase thats the only way to appreciate the sheer scale of these caves . Look at the people to get some idea of the size.
Inside the caves
there are more steps
to the second cave
Souveniers available
The view from the top
