When does invasive become native

New Zealand like the rest of the world suffers from introduced species. You know the thing , somebody thinks a couple of rabbits cant do any harm can they ? So all over Otaga (the bit I have spent most time in) are Lupines. Very beautiful, they line the hills and valleys and are legion. ain't natural though are they? Its like Banksy when does a bloody eyesore become art.

Introduced species include Sheep and the clover they feed on, cows , goats , ferrets , hares rabbits, gorse ,(don't think that's native) ,fir trees , carp, rudd, catfish, Hedgehogs (still getting squashed crossing the road, you would think natural selection would have sorted that out by now), deer , ducks sparrows, Australian magpies, and wasps which are a big problem.

Too many to list here and all detrimental to the native flora and fauna. What do you do thought say well this stuff obviously does better here so let it go, or try to preserve and restore what was native? How do you decide? At what point in history do you say that is the way it was ? Things have always migrated and colonized , so at what point in time do you say that is the restore point? When man arrived? Not the Europeans but the Polynesians, they did their bit in changing the 'natural' environment. You decide.
